Visa Requirements
Most nationalities require an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA). Apply online at eta.gov.lk/slvisa/ at least 1 week before travel. The tourist visa allows a 30-day stay and can be extended at the Department of Immigration in Colombo.
Currency & Money
Sri Lankan Rupee (LKR) is the local currency. ATMs are widely available in cities and towns. Major credit cards accepted at hotels and larger establishments. We recommend carrying cash for smaller shops and rural areas.
Best Time to Visit
Sri Lanka is a year-round destination. October to March is best for the southwest coast. April to September is ideal for the east coast and ancient cities. January to April offers the best hill country weather.
